Kushinara, also known as Kushinagar, is a small town located in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is an important Buddhist pilgrimage site as it is believed to be the place where Lord Buddha attained Mahaparinirvana, or the final release from the cycle of rebirth.
According to Buddhist texts, Lord Buddha reached Kushinara after traveling for several months from Bodh Gaya, where he attained enlightenment. He spent his last days here and passed away on the full moon day of Vaishakh, around 483 BC.
Today, Kushinara is home to several important Buddhist sites, including the Mahaparinirvana Temple, which houses a 6 meter-long reclining statue of Lord Buddha, and the Ramabhar Stupa, which is believed to mark the spot where Lord Buddha was cremated.
Kushinara is an important destination for Buddhist pilgrims from around the world, and the town is visited by thousands of people every year.
